Christmas Traditions in America. America is a melting pot of cultures from all over the world. Christmas traditions varies by regions of the country. Based on the nationalities that have settled in these regions. Regardless, of national region we all believe in family, Santa Claus, Giving and Love at Christmas Time.

Christmas Traditions in AmericaSanta Claus originated in United States in the 1860’s. Given the Dutch name, St Nicholas (Sintaklaas). The Dutch brought St. Nicholas to America in the 17th century. He did not gain importance until Washington Irving wrote, “The Father of Santa Claus.” Old Santa Claus did have a red suit, smoke a pipe, lived in the North Pole and flies around in a wagon with no reindeers. Of course, he did bring children gifts. In 1863 St. Nicholas was given the name Santa Claus his old wagon was traded for a sleigh with reindeers.
